Many of us
deal with imperfect lives. There are just too many aspects of our existence
that we cannot control no matter how hard we try. A sense of being unable to
control everything around us is intimidating, even terrifying to some people.
That’s probably why so many of us act out in anger. However, that’s another
blog post.
Although
everyone has challenges, we don’t all have the same amount of them. Some of us
are faced with multiple trials at once. Others are faced with ridiculous past
and present challenges that threaten our mental, spiritual, or physical health.
Today, I would like to highlight two women—one famous, one not so famous…yet—who
epitomize surviving overwhelming problems with an optimistic attitude. These
ladies of great faith can teach all of us quite a bit about never giving up.
Joyce Meyer
This
well-known Bible teacher’s tips for healing any kind of pain include the
following:
- Believe that God can work it out for good.
- Totally forgive.
- Renew your mind. (Correct toxic ways of thinking.)
- Receive God’s love.
- Don’t determine your value by how people have treated you.
- Learn how to understand and manage your emotions.
- Ask for wisdom and favor.
- Remember that people act out of their own limitations.
Empowerment for emotionally stability
Carol Graham
My good
friend, Carol Graham, has faced a lifetime of successes and failures. She understands
how endurance and faith can
turn a sense of despondency into eventual success. Her entire life has been a
testimony to mental stability despite unbelievable odds. Carol’s everyday
existence is a symphony of humor, heartache, and everything in between. This is
mirrored in her blog, Never…Ever…Give
Up Hope , which is always insightful
and often funny. Her blog is a vital demonstration of how this remarkable woman
incorporates faith into every aspect of her life.
This is her prescription for sadness:
Worship
Praise
Prayer
I have taken Carol’s advice by doing the following:
Playing
hymns on the piano
Thanking God
for what IS right in my life
Praying in
my heart continually
I have still
not seen the major breakthrough I’m looking for, but I AM feeling an emotional
stability that some might consider miraculous under the circumstances. I don’t know many other people who would be
able to remain steadfast through continual storms.
My Conclusion
The lives of
overcomers such as Joyce Meyer and Carol Graham prove that God does trade our ashes for beauty—in his own way and time. He knows how to heal any kind of hurt. Then,
he takes the damaged individual and gives them a crown for their troubles. However,
there are no guarantees of what that crown will be or when it will come. In the
meantime, we must continue to try to do whatever we can to live in the light.
How have you
remained stable despite the odds?
