In recent
years, many barriers have been broken:
- We don’t have to publish our writing the traditional way; we can self-publish.
- The race and gender barrier have relaxed in American politics.
- We don’t have to get our news only from mainstream media outlets.
Music is
another area where new ground is being broken. Today’s musicians don’t always compose, play,
perform, or promote their music in a well-known manner. Some of them build
their own instruments. Most of them become famous through YouTube, a fairly recent
innovation.
These stars refuse
to be hedged in by the usual expectations of how music is made and enjoyed. The
Piano Guys, Lindsey Stirling, 2Cellos, and William Close are members of a new
generation that forges its own path to success. If you enjoy exciting, quality music with a twist,
I invite you to look them up on YouTube.
Today, I
would like to focus on The Wintergarten
Music Machine. It is an amazing contraption that makes music using marbles.
Martin Molin built and composed it.
This video
is guaranteed to put a smile on your face. It’s 5 minutes long and well worth
watching:
My Conclusion
We’re lucky
to live in less constricting times than previous generations. Prominent people
in various fields are sending out a clear message that they refuse to be boxed
in by old-fashioned expectations. They insist on following their own path, just
like the apostle Paul:
“Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or
am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would
not be a servant of Christ.” Galations 1:10 (NIV)
How are you following your own path?
