“Jesus looked at them and said, ‘With
man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.’”—Matthew 19:26
(NIV)
You have what you need. That’s a strong statement with which you may be familiar. It’s so general, and somewhat confusing. We may think, “Huh? What is that referring to, exactly? My health? My relationships? My finances? My education?“
The answer
is, “All the above.” Yes, you have all the necessary ingredients to move
forward in your appointed life. No individual
can be the most intelligent, rich, beautiful (add your own adjectives) person out
there. Take heart; God can use whatever strengths you bring to the table.
It’s
tempting to think modern science and technology are the source of every
type of practical power. However, the Bible is full of cases of men and women
who conquered their goliaths (pun intended) with simple tools and scarce
rations. Let’s explore some of these valiant souls:
- Samson—Killed 1,000 men with the jawbone of a donkey. Killed 3,000, including himself, while he was blinded and tied to a pillar
- Moses—Initiated the plagues of Egypt and parted the Red Sea with his wooden staff.
- Jesus and the Disciples—Fed 5,000 followers with five loaves of bread and two fish.
- The Four Lepers Mentioned in 2 Kings—Scared off the enemy’s forces and saved their city armed only with courage. God magnified their footsteps to sound like an entire army. The enemy fled their own city in terror as the lepers came closer, leaving their provisions behind. The starving people of Jerusalem had plenty of food and water once again.
- David—Defeated the Philistine’s largest, most skilled warrior with a simple slingshot and no armor.
- Esther—Saved the Jewish people from destruction with her beauty and courage.
My Conclusion
“To succeed
in life, you need three things: a wishbone, a backbone, and a funny bone.”—Reba
McEntire
Victory does
not always go to those with the most advantages. God is more than able to make
up for what we think we’re lacking. Run your own race; you have all the
necessary tools.
