“Be still, and know that I am God: I
will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.” Psalm 46:10
(KJV)
“And lest I should be exalted above
measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn
in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted
above measure. For this thing I besought the Lord thrice, that it might depart
from me. And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength
is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my
infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. Therefore I take
pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in
distresses for Christ's sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong.” 2
Corinthians 12: 7-10 (KJV)
Finding Contentment
Most human
beings aren’t as humble and patient as Paul. We want to change our
circumstances, and we hope to alter them now. Reality dictates we don’t
always get our way. The blockages are still there. Forget about the huge dreams
we cherished in many areas. We’re lucky to accomplish most of our daily goals; it’s hard to think beyond that.
In our
darkest hours, it’s helpful to remember that God is working behind the
scenes. He is softening hearts and preparing promotions and healing. We can’t
see or feel the change, but it’s on the way. There’s no telling how, when, or
where the breakthrough will come. God isn’t limited.
It’s still hard
to keep the faith when we aren’t seeing results. There are metaphorical valleys
where absolutely nothing seems to be happening.
In my last article,
I discussed how we have to retrain our brains. Individuals can torture themselves
with phrases, such as “What if…,” or, “Yes, but…” Circumstances can be far from
what a person expects, or hopes for.
This great
article on Madmedic describes a place where God has removed many things in our
lives, and we can’t change anything. Gone are the days when we can flawlessly plan
and orchestrate our lives. The band, or orchestra, seems to be paying attention
to a completely different leader now. They aren’t following us at all.
Individuals
may feel insecure, but God is taking us to deeper levels of faith and prayer.
God is making something new.
The Waiting Game
During our
roughest times, it’s helpful to remember that God is working in the background.
He is softening hearts and preparing promotions and healing. We can’t see or
feel the change, but it’s on the way.
Undercover Boss: Celebrity Edition
This
uplifting reality series features sports and entertainment celebrities. The
stars pretend to be struggling entrepreneurs while they search out people to
help in their own fields of expertise.
The three
struggling artists or athletes featured in each episode have spent years
perfecting their craft and trying to become known. These hard workers are used
to dealing with cruelty, anonymity, and a lack of resources. One could say they’re
used to “nothing”. Suddenly, the prominent figures enter their lives and hook
them up with amazing opportunities, or “abundance”.
