Faith: How does it Work?

“But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.”-- Hebrews 11:6 (KJV)

Thanks so much for taking the time to support my blog!

Is there a widely accepted definition of faith? “Hope based in a higher power (God),” is a simple way to start. Faith isn’t a simple belief that life will improve on its own. It’s the motivation to make that improvement. The Bible explains faith in this way:

All quotes taken from the King James Version of the Bible

Goes beyond the five senses

"(For we walk by faith, not by sight:)"--2 Corinthians 5:7
"Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen."--Hebrews 11:1
Rests in the power of God, not man

"That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God."--1 Corinthians 2:5
Contains a power beyond belief

"And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you."-- Matthew 17:20
Quotes on Faith from brainyquote.com

“Keep your dreams alive. Understand to achieve anything requires faith and belief in yourself, vision, hard work, determination, and dedication. Remember all things are possible for those who believe.”--Gail Devers
“Through hard work, perseverance and a faith in God, you can live your dreams”—Dr. Ben Carson
“The foundation stones for a balanced success are honesty, character, integrity, faith, love and loyalty.”--Zig Ziglar
“The smallest seed of faith is better than the largest fruit of happiness.”--Henry David Thoreau

My Conclusion

Faith is the ability to relax in the perfect storm. Let’s expand the analogy:

“To have faith is to trust yourself to the water. When you swim you don't grab hold of the water, because if you do you will sink and drown. Instead you relax, and float.”-- Alan Watts brainyquote.com
