Letting go: a Tension Reliever

"Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature?"--Matthew 6:27 (KJV)

There you have it. Worrying doesn’t help at all. I’m 5’1/2”. I get frustrated with the disrespect I receive. I have always wished I were taller. I haven’t been transformed into a 5’ 10” senior supermodel yet.

Matthew 6 is part of the Sermon on the Mount. The last part of it deals mainly with the uselessness of anxiety. This is a good message for those of us who feel limited in any way.

Today I will share some resources on letting go. Let’s start with this lyric video of Jason Gray’s song, “I’m Gonna let it Go”:

“Letting go” quotes from Goodreads:

“Incredible change happens in your life when you decide to take control of what you do have power over instead of craving control over what you don't.”―-Steve Maraboli, Life, the Truth, and Being Free

“You must learn to let go. Release the stress. You were never in control anyway.”-―Steve Maraboli, Life, the Truth, and Being Free
******************************
“It is important that we forgive ourselves for making mistakes. We need to learn from our errors and move on.”-―Steve Maraboli, Life, the Truth, and Being Free
******************************
“Renew, release, let go. Yesterday’s gone. There’s nothing you can do to bring it back. You can’t “should’ve” done something. You can only DO something. Renew yourself. Release that attachment. Today is a new day!”-―Steve Maraboli, Unapologetically You: Reflections on Life and the Human Experience
******************************
“Some people believe holding on and hanging in there are signs of great strength. However, there are times when it takes much more strength to know when to let go and then do it.”-―Ann Landers

“Once you realize you deserve a bright future, letting go of your dark past is the best choice you will ever make.-―Roy T. Bennett, The Light in the Heart

My Conclusion

We may not have as much control as we’d like, but God does.

“Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.”
“The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah.”--Psalm 46:10-11 (KJV)

One night I dreamed a dream.
As I was walking along the beach with my Lord.
Across the dark sky flashed scenes from my life.
For each scene, I noticed two sets of footprints in the sand,
One belonging to me and one to my Lord.

After the last scene of my life flashed before me,
I looked back at the footprints in the sand.
I noticed that at many times along the path of my life,
especially at the very lowest and saddest times,
there was only one set of footprints.

This really troubled me, so I asked the Lord about it.
"Lord, you said once I decided to follow you,
You'd walk with me all the way.
But I noticed that during the saddest and most troublesome times of my life,
there was only one set of footprints.
I don't understand why, when I needed You the most, You would leave me."

He whispered, "My precious child, I love you and will never leave you
Never, ever, during your trials and testings.
When you saw only one set of footprints,
It was then that I carried you."

Are you willing to let go and let God?
