“For ye have
need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive
the promise.”-- Hebrews 10:36 (KJV)
I began my
series of articles on the miracles patience can bring last week. Please see
that writing on beneficial relationships here.
Some people
find each other early in life. Others don’t find that perfect companion as soon
as expected. There is still hope! My husband and I found each other after years
of unsuccessful dating. In our social circles, many people marry early. They
often get together in their early 20s. We were ages 30 and 28, respectively, at
the time of our wedding.
That’s not
all. We both came with a tremendous amount of baggage. Here are some of the
challenges we had faced:
- Tough childhoods
- Bullying
- Poverty
- Abuse
- Undiagnosed mental and medical limitations
That’s only
a general, partial list. I’m not comfortable going into more detail. It’s absolutely
a miracle two such broken people found each other.
What’s the
secret? Patience and love…oh, and most importantly, forgiveness. Why has our
companionship lasted? We’re best friends with the same goals.
John, my husband,
was definitely worth the wait! He’s one of the most dedicated, responsible
individuals I know. That’s only the beginning. Trust me, I could write pages on
that topic alone.
Has it
always been easy? Not at all. Are you kidding me? John and I were too
traumatized. We also co-authored the book on “stubborn”. lol. I think that’s
the main quality that’s carried us through unbelievably difficult trials. We’ve
come so far!
Would either
of us have found such a level of compromise and commitment with anyone else?
Doubtful. My husband and I were meant only for each other. We’re kindred
spirits.
My Conclusion
Nobody can
guarantee a wonderful relationship at any time of life. I found love against
the odds. I just wanted to pass on that good news to anyone who’s wondering
when, and if, their patience will
ever be rewarded.

“Patience is
not sitting and waiting, it is foreseeing. It is looking at the thorn and
seeing the rose, looking at the night and seeing the day. Lovers are patient
and know that the moon needs time to become full.”—Rumi

“If you have
patience, then you’ll also have love. Patience leads to love.”--Mata

“For
anything worth having one must pay the price; and the price is always work,
patience, love, self-sacrifice – no paper currency, no promises to pay, but the
gold of real service.”--John Burroughs
How has patience helped your
companionships?
Patience is always rewarded. The important thing to remember is NOT to run out of patience. Our miracle could be just around the corner. Thank you for this reminder.
ReplyDeleteCarol Graham, It's true, we never know when our miracle will show up. We can't give up.
