“And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.” Matthew 16:18 (KJV)
Daddy, Dad,
Papa, Father…The name doesn’t matter. The
age of the child isn’t important. The meaning behind the term is what matters.
It can make us think of strength, provision, and guidance. The name, Peter,
comes from the Greek, “Petros”, which means rock. Simon, later Peter, was the underlying
base of support of the church. Dads are the rocks of their families.

What is a Foundation?
Roofs
keep the weather out, of course. Foundations have a bigger job. They provide
balance and support, even during an earthquake.
GWS
Masonry lists the purposes of solid foundations:
Support and
bear weight.
Resist
movement.
Insulate your
home.
Keep
moisture out.
Prevent insect
infiltration.
Solid bases
protect and defend us in our homes. That definition also fits the word “father”
perfectly. Dads, obviously, keep their families safe from more than bad weather
and bugs. They can provide a safe haven from bad luck, poor choices, and
bullying.
My Conclusion
24
Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken
him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:
25
And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon
that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.
26
And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be
likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand:
27 And the
rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that
house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it. Matthew 7: 24-27 (KJV)
Much of the
world is subject to extreme weather variations. Buildings with poorly built
bases might not survive earthquakes, hurricanes, and so forth. What would be
the use of a house built on sand in the path of a hurricane or typhoon?
Fathers help
build a base to get us through the storms of life. Please enjoy this children’s
Sunday School song based on the scripture passage above:
Do you Appreciate Your Solid Foundation?
I have been blessed with a strong heritage of a Godly father and grandfather. And thank God that my children do as well. I appreciate that foundation immensely.
ReplyDeleteCarol Graham, I knew you would relate to the foundation image. I can tell you and your kids have been blessed with generations of firm foundations.
