A Tribute to Fathers

"Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it."—Proverbs 22:6 KJV

Training. Encouragement. Guidance. These are only three of the many ways our father figures offer support.

 A Heartfelt Video

A good father is one of the most unsung, unpraised, unnoticed, and yet one of the most valuable assets in our society." – Billy Graham

Please enjoy this three-minute recording. (Be sure to keep a tissue box handy.) The participants are 10 pairs of fathers and their children. Dads discuss why they’re proud of their kids. Sons and daughters talk about why they’re grateful to their dads.

Celebrities Honor Their Fathers (quotes taken from Southern Living magazine.)

"He was there when I didn't understand, he was there when I was wrong, he was there when I cried, he was there when I lied. For some reason my dad was always there, when I needed him the most." – Michael Jordan

*************************************

"The only way I can describe [fatherhood]—it sounds stupid, but—at the end of How the Grinch Stole Christmas, you know how his heart grows like five times? Everything is full; It's just full all the time." – Matt Damon, to Parade

*************************************

"My father is my rock. It's where I learned everything about loyalty, dependability, about being there day-in, day-out, no matter what." – Hugh Jackman, in an interview with 60 Minutes

*************************************

“My father taught me not to overthink things, that nothing will ever be perfect, so just keep moving and do your best…" – Scott Eastwood, son of Clint Eastwood, to Town & Country

 My Conclusion

“Dads are most ordinary men turned by love into heroes, adventurers, story-tellers, and singers of song." – Pam Brown

*************************************

"Dad: A son's first hero, a daughter's first love." – Unknown

What did you learn from your father?

  1. One of the greatest lessons (among many) is to "Do it Right - Do it Now." I miss everything about this man who I greatly admired and respected. The video was a tear-jerker - thank you.
