Most of us
are busy. We have schedules to keep and responsibilities to fulfill. Time doesn’t
stand still. Our attention may be divided between home, family, and work. It’s
a wonder some individuals can focus for even a few minutes at a time.
Quite a few of us are in distress. We’re dealing with multiple life-changing
challenges at a time. This can make us feel completely powerless and limited—either
physically or mentally—or both:
- Our world is ripping apart at the seams.
- We get pushed back every time we try to take a step forward.
- Loved ones are not always able to give us the boost we need.
- Anticipated improvements are delayed, and delayed, and...Years later, we’re still waiting for that total breakthrough.
The news
constantly reminds us there are plenty of powerful groups out there who do
not have our best interests at heart. They’re trying to steal or crush these
attributes:
- Peace of mind
- Money
- Self-esteem
- Health
- Freedom
- Civil Rights—or any kind of rights
- Faith
- Hope
I’m sure
that’s only a partial list. Residents of oppressed countries could add hundreds
of entries to it.
Is there any good news?
Well, not if
you watch network news. Happiness and peace don’t bring good ratings. Nevertheless,
there are individuals out there who
seem to be angels in disguise:
My Workplace
I recently
started a job in a long-term health-care facility. It is full of people who go
the extra mile for each other and for the residents. At least three of my
co-workers have continued working through serious injury. They don’t want to
let those they care for down.
Other staff
members have been more than willing to answer my questions and welcome me into
the work family. Even the top
administrators remember my name and ask me if I need help.
Tawny Nelson
Who’s she?
Tawny is just another regular person like you and I. She’s a struggling single
mom of young children. She was helped by one human angel when other people had
passed her by for two full hours. Please see that brief, inspiring story here.
My Conclusion
“God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you
have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them.”—Hebrews
6:10 (NIV)
In a deeply
unsettled world, kind individuals still exist. When we’re almost ready to
abandon hope, an angel in human disguise may show up to make our path easier. They
selflessly interrupt their own plans to serve others. These
lovely people give new meaning to the word “service”, and they
boost our faith in humanity.
